1. Name of the Product: Oral Polio Vaccine
The live oral polio vaccine (OPV) is a trivalent vaccine containing suspensions of type 1,2 and 3 attenuated poliomyelitis viruses (Sabin strains) prepared in primary moneky kidney cell culture. Each dose contains Poliovirus type 1 = 106.0 Poliovirus type 2 = 105.0 Poliovirus type 3 = 105.8 The vaccine contains stabilizers and traces of antibiotics. Immunization Schedule:
Infants should get at least three doses of OPV at a minimum interval of four weeks. WHO recommends the following schedules in endemic countries; At Birth; 6, 10, 14 weeks. In non-endemic areas, first dose can be given from 6 weeks along with the first dose of DPT. OPV can be given safely and effectively at the same time as Measles, Rubella, Mumps, DPT, DT, TT, BCG, Hepatitis B, Haemophilus Influenza type b, Yellow fever vaccine and vitamin A supplement.
